James pivoted from making docs for terrestrial TV to features in 2018 with his first documentary 'Organ Stops: Saving the King of Instruments' about a group of eccentric pipe organ enthusiasts saving instruments from closing churches. Screened at film and music festivals across the US and UK, it was bought and shown by the BBC on Christmas Eve 2022.
